Basically I need to know if the information that's relevant to the ban is stored in the same place as the game progress/save stats. I'm not really all that good with tech and after googling about for a bit I'm unsure if it's possible to transfer the HDD so that I can have all my game progress back or if that means the console will go back to being banned. Now they switched my disc drive to a new console (that had a broken disc drive but could access the PSN) but left the HDD in the old console so that I can use both in the same console. So I asked the guy I bought it from what to do and brought it back to him (after playing on it for quite a while) and he had a technician take a look at turns out the console was apparently permanently banned by Sony even though it's been reset to default. This was obviously not great because a lot of games need to go online to play couch coop and that was a big thing for me at the time. Got a subreddit you want to see here? Message the mods!
